The fences may not be as challenging as previous renewals and there will be a lot more finishers, but nothing can be taken away from the world’s most entertaining steeple chase. This Saturday features the Aintree Grand National. 4 miles 2 and a half furlongs and thirty of the most legendary fences in the game.

Last year’s winner I Am Maximus is back for more but carrying a hefty weight whilst recent Cheltenham Glenfarclas Cross Country winner Stumptown will be hoping to emulate Tiger Roll by completing a fantastic race double. We check out best Grand National bets and top odds from our partner firms Bet365, William Hill, Bet Victor, Betfred and Boylesports.

NRNB

Non-Runner No Bet is now available with all of our partner firms. This means if you place a bet now for Saturday’s Grand National, all stakes will be returned if the horse is withdrawn at any stage.

Each Way Betting

At the time of writing, Betfred are currently offering 7 places for each way Grand National bets. Bet365, William Hill, Betfred and Boylesports are all offering 6 places although these may increase nearer to the race day.

The Big Players

Stumptown

The Gavin Cromwell trained Glenfarclas Cross Country winner fits the perfect profile for the Grand National. He stays all day and should have no difficulty tackling the less demanding Aintree fences.

The horse would be looking to emulate Tiger Roll’s 2018 feat of completing the Glenfarclas and Grand National double. He is our selection to win this year’s Grand National. Best odds available of 8/1 with Bet365, William Hill, Betfred and Boylesports.

Iroko

One of five JP McManus entries at the time of writing. This Jonjo O’Neill trained 7-year-old never rarely puts in a poor effort and is always consistent. However, the trip is going into unchartered territory and the lack of experience around Aintree is a worry. Best odds of 9/1 with Bet Victor and Betfred paying 7 places for each way bets.

I Am Maximus

Last year’s winner needs little or no introduction. However, his recent form figures are nowhere near as encouraging as last season, pulling up in his first start and finishing a satisfactory seventeen lengths behind Galopin Des Champs in the Irish Gold Cup.

Nevertheless, he should be coming to the boil for this renewal of the Grand National and the lively ground should not be a worry. Best odds of 8/1 with Bet 365, William Hill and Boylesports.

Vanillier

Trained by the man of the moment, Gavin Cromwell, this former Cheltenham Festival Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle winner is certainly heading towards his twilight years but has shown consistent form this season. He knows his way around Aintree having run in last year’s renewal and finishing as runner-up behind Corach Rambler in 2023. He is also running at an attractive mark of 144 and should be there or thereabouts if he can reproduce his best. Best odds of 10/1 with Bet365.

The Forgotten Horses?

Some very prestigious class acts have slipped down the handicap and warrant a mention here.

Kandoo Kid

This Paul Nicholls trained Coral Gold Cup winner still remains relatively unexposed despite lack of experience over the Aintree fences. Coral Gold Cup winners have a good record here and the horse remains on an attractive mark of 152. Best odds of 20/1 with Bet365.

Hyland

This horse has been a model of consistency this season for trainer Nicky Henderson and will appreciate the anticipated lively going. A great jumper of fences although Aintree will be a new experience. Bets odds of 20/1 with Bet 365.

Minella Indo

This former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner is a class act on his day and knows his way around Aintree after finishing 8 lengths behind I Am Maximus in last year’s renewal.

He cannot be ignored at attractive odds of 33/1 with Bet 365.

Bravemansgame

This Paul Nicholls trained veteran has certainly seen his best years and has been on a downward trajectory since winning The King George in 2022 and finishing second behind Galopin Des Champs in the 2023 Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Nevertheless, the fast ground is perfect for him, and he could pick up places through tired horses at a decent price. 50/1 best odds with Bet 365.
